Goodbye to Coeur D’Alene, hello to Washington! We had a wonderful start to the ride on the Idaho Centennial Trail, crossed the state line at mile 15 out of 100, and then headed on to the Fish Lake Trail. The trails we were on today were awesome; one being slightly overgrown on the sides but otherwise well-kept, so it felt adventurous speeding through the bushes and branches, and another full of cyclists who we talked to while at our rest stops. We even did a portrait during lunch! It’s great to be able to find and talk to people with similar passions while on the road.
Some of us stopped in downtown Spokane to get a taste of urban Washington (and coffee) before the cool landscape disappeared and we ended up back in South Dakota..! Not really, but it felt and looked like it: kind of boring and hot, with some hills and grass and little else. I guess this is the eastern side of Washington, and we’ll be getting more of it tomorrow.
Our stayover is in Ritzville, and after a wash in the sink and dinner we didn’t have much to do but relax! Tomorrow is about 60 miles, and Sour has predicted crosswinds and headwinds for the whole ride… so we’ll see how we fare! It’s crazy that we’re in a coastal state now; one could say we’ve made it “across the country” but for most of us it won’t be official until we reach 1) the coast or 2) San Francisco. Either way, it’s significant and incredible to be all the way out here.
