BIOGRAPHY
Hi everyone! My name is Kathryn Choate and I'm a second year nursing student at Parkland College. By the time we start our summer ride, I will have graduated from the program and I will be working in a hospital after we get back. I grew up in a nature-loving family who made sure I spent much of my childhood outside hiking, biking, and exploring. Outside of school and the Illini 4000, I enjoy volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, dancing, boxing, and baking. I'm so honored and excited to be a part of this incredible group.
PERSONAL STATEMENT
I’m doing this for the people in my life I’ve lost to cancer or never got to meet because of this terrible disease, as well as those who are still in my life due to advancements in treatments and screenings. I’m also doing it for the patients I've met every week through being in the hospital. I’ve met people at various stages in their disease process, at different stages of grief, different levels of acceptance, and different levels of physical capabilities. I want to do this to shine a light on people’s different experiences as well as to raise money for research to further the fight against cancer.
