BIOGRAPHY
Hello! I am Lindsey Coleman, currently a senior in Animal Science minoring in Spanish. After graduation I hope to attend grad school studying agricultural development with a focus on sustainable animal production systems. I was born in Texas, and raised in Glen Ellyn, IL a suburb of Chicago. Growing up I was heavily involved in sports such as badminton and field hockey. Additionally I spent a lot of time with my church family, as I was a core member of my youth group. Through my involvement in sports and church I had the opportunity to travel and participate in many competitions and mission trips. My heart grew for those in need as my worldview expanded, and I realized how I could intertwine my passion for animals with my desire to help the world. Over the past four years I’ve worked on the university dairy farm doing research with calves, served on the leadership team at Axiom Campus ministry, spent a weird amount of time in the meat cooler on the Meat Judging team, finished two sprint triathlons, and enjoyed far too many late night milkshakes at Merry Ann’s. As my time at U of I winds down you can find me on coffee dates with new and old friends, spending quiet nights at home with my roommates, embarking on random adventures to local scenes, attempting to play guitar, baking cookies, and riding my bike. I’m excited to end my college experience with the adventure of a lifetime, traveling across this great nation all in the name of working to rid the world of a terrible disease.
PERSONAL STATEMENT
It’s an unfortunate fact that everyone will experience the effects of cancer in some way shape or form. I’ve been fortunate enough to have yet to experience any close family members succumb to such a horrible disease. However, I’ve known too many people who have watched their loved ones suffer and sometimes even lose the battle with cancer. Recently I’ve struggled watching the mother of my close friend and her ongoing fight with breast cancer. The fight against cancer is important to me because we are so close to finding a way to stop this disease from destroying the lives of those we love. If raising the funds for researchers and taking this ride will even bring us slightly closer to creating a world where daughters don’t have to watch their mother’s suffer, then I’m willing to put everything I have into making that future a reality.
