BIOGRAPHY
Hi everyone! My name is Nabeel and I am currently a first year Masters student (Fulbright Scholar) in Economics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I was born and raised in Karachi, Pakistan. Some of my hobbies include playing and watching football (read: soccer), travelling, hiking, and exploring new cultures. In my free time, you'll usually find me watching true-crime documentaries on Netflix or aimlessly scrolling through 9gag. I am extremely elated to be a part of the 2023 rider team at Illini 4000. Looking forward to make lifelong friendships and memories while also raising awareness about cancer on the way!
PERSONAL STATEMENT
Unfortunately, cancer is disease that does not discriminate. Cancer can be devastating, and I know this through personal experience. Cancer survivor stories are immensely motivating, radiating life and resilience. However, not everyone is lucky enough, including my grandfather who lost his battle with lung cancer after three years of treatment because of delayed detection. I believe that disseminating awareness through rigorous efforts is crucial to educate the masses about the prevalence of this disease, and the Portraits Project serves as an effective way to achieve this objective. By participating in I4K, I want to be a part of the journey to document the personal experiences of the people suffering with this disease in order to to show how cancer can affect people, as well as funding cancer research.
