BIOGRAPHY
Hello! My name is Angela Jing, and I'm a freshman at the University of Illinois interested in studying finance and information systems. I'm originally from Naperville, Illinois, and I grew up in a nature-loving family that enjoys hiking, biking, and kayaking—my dream is to one day visit all 63 national parks! At UIUC, I'm also a member of Beta Alpha Psi Business Honors Fraternity, a consultant at EntreCORPS (a pro-bono consulting organization for socially-driven startups), and I work for University Housing as a social media marketing assistant. Outside of school, I love exploring local attractions like the Ice Arena or Japan House, trying out restaurants across campus, and having movie nights with friends. I'm incredibly grateful to be a rider for the 2022 Illini 4000 team, and I can't wait to spread cancer awareness and raise funds for cancer-related causes throughout this journey. Thank you so much for visiting my page!
PERSONAL STATEMENT
When I was nine years old, my dad was diagnosed with lung cancer. For the next three years, I watched as he grew weaker, unable to walk, eat, and eventually even talk. I realized that every moment that I had with him was precious, which is why I spent as much time as I could with him. My dad passed away when I was 12, leaving a large void in my family and in my life. I know I can't get my dad back, but I want to honor his memory by fighting against the illness that took his life. Through Illini 4000, I hope to contribute my time and energy to raise money for cancer research, as well as document how cancer has affected countless others like me through the Portraits Project. Moreover, I'm excited to bike across this beautiful country that I've lived in my entire life. At home, I'm an avid biker as well—I love biking through my local forest preserves and parks. In comparison, the chance to bike from New York to San Francisco is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, one that I'm incredibly honored to be a part of.
