BIOGRAPHY

My name is Jonathan Bustos. I am currently a Junior in the college of engineering studying aerospace engineering. When I was younger I went on a cross country road trip with my dad and sister. The best moments of the trip were when we took naps under the stars. I decided to study aerospace engineering because although it might not happen in my lifetime, I want to help others reach those stars we all longingly look for at night. When I am not busy studying for flight mechanics or thermodynamics, I spend my time singing in Krannert or the Music Building. In Chicago, I used to be in my high school's choir, gospel choir, and HHW musical ensemble. During my freshman year of college, I was in the University choir. After pushing it aside for so long, I recently decided to pick up a minor in music in hopes to improve my voice. Through music or through science, I hope to spread a little joy to the people around me. Other than that I am the proud father of a fluffy cat named Atremia and a german shepard named Bellatrix LeStrange.

PERSONAL STATEMENT

When I was younger my parents took me to Mexico to visit my great-grandmother. They were worried that I may never get to meet her because at the time she had cancer. When I arrived at her house I was greeted with one of the best meals I have ever had and my great-grandmother’s warm smile. A couple of days later when it was time for me to return home, she gave me a little toy slingshot and a prayer to live a long and happy life. Two years ago, my great-grandmother passed away from cancer. Although we have come far with cancer treatments, I feel there is still a long way to go. I am excited to contribute to cancer research and document the experiences of those affected by cancer through the Portraits Project and I4K.
