BIOGRAPHY
Hi! I’m Cari, and I’m a Sophomore at the University of Illinois. I’m planning to study Global Studies, and minor in both German and Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences. In addition to Illini 4000, I’m involved in U of I’s Congressional Debate Society. I’m really passionate about the environment, and I love hiking and being outside — I’ve been to 20 national parks to date, and my goal is to visit all of them. Long term, I hope to make a difference in the fight against climate change, and publish a novel. In my free time, I like to draw, hammock, and find dogs to pet on the quad. At home, I have a dog, a cat, a chinchilla, and more houseplants than I can count. I love meeting new people and having new experiences, so I’m thrilled to be a part of this year’s team!
PERSONAL STATEMENT
I’m riding for my Uncle Chris, who is currently battling pancreatic cancer. My uncle is one of the warmest, friendliest people in my family, and I wanted to do something meaningful that could have an impact in my uncle’s fight against cancer, and the fight so many other people are having. When I was learning about Illini 4000, I was really interested in the Portraits Project, because I think it makes the Illini 4000 different from other organizations, in that it harnesses the power that stories have to give solidarity and strength to people. I feel lucky that I have the opportunity to be a part of the Illini 4000, and I hope that I’m able to make an impact on people’s lives both through fundraising and the Portraits Project.
