BIOGRAPHY
Hello. My name is Shutian, and I am from Xiamen, China. It’s a southern city in my country. The weather in my city is like that in California—it’s really warm and it never snows. So it’s really beautiful with the sea and trees which are always green, even in the winter. I love traveling from place to place, so I come to United States to study. I like to take photographs of everywhere I’ve been to, and I think I am good at it. Cycling is one of my favorite sports—I rode bike to school every day when I was in primary school, and I am proud of my love for cycling. Actually, I love all kinds of sports—soccer, basketball, billiard, badminton, Ping-Pong, swimming, etc. I entered University of Illinois this fall to study industrial engineering(actually I want to declare psychology as my second major in the following year). It’s my first time to study abroad and I am really excited. I want to meet new people and make more friends. I hope Illini 4000 can make me a better person.
PERSONAL STATEMENT
My grandfather was diagnosed as lymph cancer when I was 14 years old. It’s the first time I get to know cancer so much. The side effect made him thin and pale. The pain he got in the surgery, the chemotherapy and the cancer brought itself was hard to get through for an old man. I really, really hoped that I could help him, but I couldn’t. I just can’t stand anymore when I saw him lying in the bed, trying to overcome the pain he got but he couldn’t. Even worse, no one could save his life. I started to realize how many people cancer has influenced, and how hard it influenced on people and their lives. I want to help them, and start to do what I can do for now. Cancer is hard to cure, but it doesn’t mean that there is nothing we can do for those patients. It’s because it’s hard to cure that we need to try our best to overcome the difficulties. I believe that, everyone has the duty to make the society better.
