BIOGRAPHY
Hi! I am a senior at the University of Illinois studying bioengineering. I'm from Downers Grove, IL and I have an obsession with my cat Oreo. My sophomore year, I studied abroad for 6 months in France and became addicted to espresso. On campus, I enjoy going to Illinois sporting events and helping with Women in Engineering outreach events. Some of my hobbies include scrapbooking and baking. I'm currently also trying to grow an avocado tree in my apartment, which includes keeping a grow light on 24/7 and I think my roommates might kill me when they see the next power bill. I feel very blessed to have this opportunity both to ride across the country and make a difference in the cancer community.
PERSONAL STATEMENT
My first memory about cancer is growing up watching my cousin battle leukemia. He was the same age as my brother and we all ran around in a gang at all our family gatherings. I am doing this ride because I wish that no one would ever have to watch their family and/or friends battle this disease. By raising money towards cancer research, together we can make great advancements towards finding the cure. By riding across America, we will spread awareness and help create a network so, while researchers are looking for a cure, we can help connect a community affected by cancer. In addition, on a personal level, I recently tore my ACL for the second time. I had surgery over Thanksgiving break and this ride is definitely a physical goal. My orthopedic doctor and physical therapist are both very optimistic that I will be able to complete the bike trip and will do everything I can to be as prepared as possible!
