Angelica Czarnecka
BIOGRAPHY
My name is Angelica Czarnecka and I am currently majoring in Industrial Engineering. I am quite lucky to have been born and raised in the beautiful city of Chicago; from the lake, to the diverse communities who could get bored? For me the summer season is biking season, every opportunity I get I am either on my bike or on the beach. Thanks to the city I have met many different people that have shaped and changed my life. My family and friends are the most important things in my life and those are the relationships I try and never take for granted. Activities I enjoy other than biking include eating, talking on the phone, talking in general, ceramics, and getting stuck on a hard physics problem. Fun fact: I made 8 ceramic bowls with various bike parts incorporated into them.
PERSONAL STATEMENT
Unfortunately, cancer is a disease, sometimes untreatable, that not only affects the lives of people with the disease, but also anyone who is close to them. I have been fortunate enough to not have been directly affected by cancer, but I can not say the same for one of my best friends. My best friends are an important aspect of my life, the bonds I have formed with them are comparable to those of family members. Samantha has been one of my best friends since I was five years old and even though we have grown up and moved away from each other our friendship has not waivered. Recently, one of her immediate family members has been diagnosed with cancer. It is important for me to be involved with this fight against cancer for Samantha and her family as well as myself. It is important for me to show my support even if I am not able to fully understand and fully help her through this tough time. It is difficult because I do not know much about what she is experiencing, what she is feeling and how she is coping. This is a serious situation, something extremely different then those of boy troubles or even friend troubles I once was able to help with. This ride would help me try and understand cancer from all angles. I am blessed to be healthy, and fortunate enough to have the resources to support the fight against cancer. So here I go fighting cancer on two wheels.
