My name is John Meehan and I was born in 1992 in Baltimore, MD. After bouncing around the east coast for the larger part of my childhood, my family ended up in suburban Philadelphia. Although I was initially dazed by the rolling hills, stretched out towns, and occasional Amish appearances, I came to love my home in Pennsylvania. Throughout school I participated heavily in music, and eventually came to pursue an education in engineering through being an audio technician. I gave up the east coast in favor of the University of Illinois to study mechanical engineering. This school has helped me evolve from a introspective kid into a student with a desire to take the most of what life has to offer.

Personal Statement

Besides being personally at high risk for skin cancer due to family history, I never met my grandmother as she died well before I was born. Her husband- my grandfather- was an incredible man (a Marine, journalist, family-man, and respected community member) so I can only imagine what she was like. Back then, cancer was a death sentence, and it took its toll on my family. I believe that in the 21st century, medical science can eradicate cancer deaths through funding from programs like Illini 4000. I believe that in one-hundred years, the discoveries for cancer treatment and prevention will be heralded as the greatest advancements modern medical science. Therefore, I would like to do my part to make that happen.
